5 kids movies that you can actually watch without falling asleep

5: Toy Story

I only watched this movie in spanish but I thought it was okay. It was better than some of the other kids movies anyway. I though it was kind of funny and even more so because of how dumb it was.
It's essentially a bunch of toys that can move, walk and talk when their "kid" (the boy who owns them) is not around. The stuff I know about this movie is kind of fuzzy around the edges but I know that they accidentally get sold in a yard sale or something like that.
I think the first movie is about the toys trying to get back to their home and getting away from the evil Zurg who either pretends to be or is Buzz Lightgear's father.
The film has Tim Allen and Tom Hanks in it. It is very famous and one of the other movies in this list (Monsters Inc.) is made by the same people.

4: Despicable Me

Despicable Me is truly a laugh out loud comedy. It features the famous Steve Carrel who plays the professional villain Mr. Gru who, when the movie starts, has just been upstaged by another villain named Vector who stole a pyramid.
Gru sets out to upstage the criminal by stealing a prototype shrink ray at a secret facility in Asia. He reveals his plan about what he is planning on doing with the shrink ray to his lovable yellows thimble like minions who, yes, are the guys on the poster.
His plan is to steal the moon. He and his minions go to the facility in Japan and steal the shrink ray and attempt to bring it back to Gru's secret hideout. However, Vector steals the shrink ray and shrinks Gru's ship.
In order to get the shrink ray back, Gru adopts 3 orphaned girls who sell girl scout cookies to Vector. He gets his assistant Dr. Nefario to make him cookie robots who help get the shrink ray back. However, Gru is trying to become a father while working against Vector to steal the ultimate object.
Despicable Me has some great actors such as Steve Carrel as Gru, Russell Brand as the Dr. Nefario, Jason Segel as Vector, and many others.

3: Monsters Inc.

Monsters Inc. is a genuinely funny movie. It can't help it that it's made fore kids. I like it because, instead of the kids being afraid of the monsters (well, they are kind of), the monsters have to be afraid of the kids as the kids can supposedly kill them with one touch.
The story is that of James P. Sully, a "scarer" who's job is to sneak into little kids rooms in the middle of the night and freak them out! The children's screams can be transferred directly into power for the city (Monster City).
The bad guy is a competitive scarer named Randall. A child who Sully is supposed to be scaring escapes through the closet door that has a portal back to the monster world!
Randall has a new device that takes the essence of a child out of them and gets more power for the city. The main characters bust the bad guys and send the child back to her world. Then, Sully comes up with a good new plan: to fuel the city with the power of a child's laughter instead of their screams.

2: Megamind

Okay, so even though this is about as kid movieish as they come, it's stellar cast (Fill Ferrell, Brad Pitt, David Cross, Jonah Hill, Tina Fey) make up for it's childish themes. I personally couldn't watch  this movie again for the life of me because my family have forced me to watch it so many times!!!!!!
When Megamind (Will Ferrell) is launched on a spaceship from his dying home planet (while giant warning signs flash the word "Panic"), his little spaceship is knocked out of a course to a fancy house on earth when a much newer and more fancy ship with another baby on it is trying to get to the same place.
His ship gets shoved to the prison where he immediately becomes bad. He gives himself the name Megamind ("The incredibly handsome master of all villainy" in his own words). The other baby becomes his opponent "Metro Man" who defends Metro city from Megamind's plots which always fail.
Megamind eventually kills the hero Metro man and has to become the city's good guy and defend them from Tighten (Jonah Cross) who starts out as a good guy but turns bad when his crush Roxanne (Tina Fey) dumps him.

1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

(Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in the UK)

I know this could also be called a thriller or a fantasy but, since one of the official genres on IMDB is Family, I thought I could get away with this. The truth is, I have no other bearable kids movies so I strayed off the beaten path a little.
This movie is much better than the other ones (in this list, I mean) and is still an amazing work of art by today's standards.
Harry lives with his abusive aunt, uncles and cousin The Dursleys.
At age 11, he gets these mysterious notes from Hogwarts, a school or wizards. Harry realizes that he is a powerful wizard who's parents were killed by the much feared Lord Voldemort who's name is not spoken by any wizards except the incredible headmaster of Hogwarts Albus Dumbledore. Harry learns at school and eventually comes face to face with Lord Voldemort who's head is sticking out of the back of one of Harry's teacher's heads.
