Review

I thought Identity Thief was a good movie but I'm so used to seeing Jason Bateman as Michael Bluth that I enjoyed the movie less than I might have otherwise. I don't know about you guys but I know that, when I see a show for years and years and then suddenly the actor is playing a whole new role, I automatically dislike that character. It's like "Who are you and what did you do to Michael?"
But, unlike I said above, I liked Identity Thief quite a bit, despite my various biases. I thought it was witty and laugh out loud funny, but also heart wrenching. Oh, is that not a seller? Well , I don't blame you! If I heard that a comedy was deep and heart wrenching, I'd be like "Oh no! Admissions returns. Which famous comedian are you trying to make do drama this time?" However, even though I epic failed at being funny in this review, Identity Thief didn't. It had, in my personal opinion, a perfect blend of drama and comedy. (Well, normally that blend would be 0% drama and 100% comedy, but I guess we can make an exception this once.)
Identity Thief also lost all of that fake, overdone effects. I felt like every effect, every car crash, and every car chase (am I overusing the word car?) was done right there, on set, with the real actors. And there was plenty of action too! It was an action, comedy, drama. Wow, I never thought I'd give a movie that had those genres more than a 2 star.

Summary

Identity Thief stars Jason Bateman as the oddly named Sandy Peterson. It's a name that that he claims is unisex. (Wow, he must have had soooo much therapy with that name. Thanks mom and dad!!!) It also stars Melissa McCarthy as Sandy Peterson! No, just kidding! Melissa McCarthy's character was a dumpster baby who doesn't even know her own name. She goes around stealing people's Identities. She steal's Sandy's and so Sandy goes and tracks her down. Very super long summary!

Parental Guidance Information

As far as swearing, there is quite a bit of it. Lots of times in this movie, the profanity is tied into the jokes which makes it better than just adding swears randomly. (Hint hint, nudge nudge The Heat.) The profanity is the same as in every rated r for language movie ever made, a "fucking" here and a "fuck you" there. But, unlike other movies, there are not any racial slurs or really offensive language about a certain sex or race.
There is also quite a bit of sex and funny sexual references. Melissa McCarthy makes very disturbing love to Cameron from Modern Family who plays a man named Chuck in Identity Thief.
As there is language throughout, it is quite hard to list any to watch out for in the way of language. However, I can list some for sex and sexual references. Here they are:
  • Melissa McCarthy and Chuck sex scene (get on edge when Melissa McCarthy, Jason Bateman, and Chuck come back to the hotel room together)
